As you may have heard, gray as a wall color is having its moment. Perhaps you’re thinking “I need to sell my house fast,” and you want to prepare it for a fast sale by first painting your walls a neutral color. However, if gray is not for you, there are many other wonderful colors you can choose that will lighten and brighten any room.
Sherwin Williams 6204 “Sea Salt” is a light, misty blue with a touch of silvery green. It’s perfect for living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. I have this color in my own living room and have used it in dozens of clients’ rooms with a delicious outcome.
Sherwin Williams 6106 “Kilim Beige” is a tried and true color. It’s a soft beige with a touch of warm taupe that is beautiful in any type of room. It tends to create a light and warm feeling. I’ve also used this color in many houses.
Sherwin Williams 6164 “Svelte Sage” is a warm, neutral beige with a little more saturation. (Saturation refers to the intensity of the color.) This color is very nice for dining rooms, sun rooms and basements.
More intensity can be added to any neutral tone to create a luxurious bathroom, library or media room. Sherwin Williams 7038, “Tony Taupe” and 7018 “Dovetail” are fabulous neutral tones with more saturation.
Keeping three walls light and adding one darker accent wall is a great way to keep a room light and bright but still enjoy a more saturated color. The three and one solution works especially well in bedrooms. Simply choose a light color from a fan deck one shade down and the accent color on the same strip three or four colors down. The colors will coordinate, you’ll have a light and bright room, yet still with a touch of deep color on one wall.
When you’re thinking about what colors to use as you’re preparing your home for a quick sale, realize that neutral tones are not just grays and beiges. You can rely on shades of blues and greens to keep walls neutral, light and airy while still incorporating some color into your home. And you can always add fun pops of color with pillows, art and accessories.
The fun part about adding color to your décor instead of your walls, is that you can easily change pillows and decorations in a room from season to season or when you get bored and give it a completely different look. Some home owners change their area rugs from season to season as well. So, when deciding on paint colors, understand you can go with something other than the trendiest color of the moment and still get a look that will help you when you’re worried about needing to sell my house fast.
